It’s true… I am an absolute salt fiend. I’m constantly getting a telling off from my partner for having too much salt in the house (is there such a thing?!) – rosemary salt, lemon salt, chilli salt, garlic salt, and more – you name it, I’ll have it! Thus, I’m definitely qualified enough to pop together this gorgeous gift guide for my fellow salt lovers out there. From salt pigs, to interesting flavours, accessories, and more, there is a salty gift in this list to suit every budget and style.
So, What Should You Buy Your Friend Who is Obsessed With Salt?
1. Flavoured Salt
If your gift recipient loves experimenting in the kitchen, a selection of flavoured salts can be a fun, cost-effective, but unique present – especially for someone who already has all the basics. I’ve done some digging and found some incredible varieties you can order online, including:
The lovely team at Cornish Sea Salt Company kindly gifted me a few of their amazing blends recently, and I’ve been loving them: their Classic Flaky Sea Salt, a vibrant Lemon & Thyme Salt, and a bold Mexican-Style Salt with mint, coriander, and chipotle. Each one is packed with flavour and adds something really special to everyday cooking. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking to gift something a little gourmet!
2. Homemade Flavoured Salt
If you have some time to spare, why not try making your own flavoured salt? It’s surprisingly simple to do, and the end result feels so thoughtful. It’s as simple as blending your chosen flavour with good quality sea salt and allowing them to dry out in a low oven.
Once dry, simply spoon it into a cute jar or mini tin, then finish with a handwritten label or gift tag. It’s a lovely little gesture on its own, or a great addition to a larger foodie gift box. And, if Christmas is around the corner, this makes an ideal bulk gift – you can create a few different flavour combos and hand them out to friends and family.
3. Foodie Art Prints
I love funky prints around the house, especially ones that feature my favourite foods or ingredients, and they make a great gift too. They’re great in the kitchen, in a utility room, or in a pantry. If you’re shopping on a smaller budget, a print on its own still makes a lovely gift. But if you’re looking to elevate it, pop it into a beautiful frame to really complete the look.
Right now, I’m loving Kitschen Prints on Etsy and Instagram – Becci creates the most wonderful pieces of colorful hand-drawn wall art, with loads of them featuring iconic foodie brands! One of my favourites is the Maldon Salt print which features beautiful illustrations of tulips with a nod to the iconic Maldon Salt box. It’s playful, stylish, and perfect for any food lover!
4. Fancy Salt & Pepper Mills
If you’re looking for a gift that’s both practical and stylish, fancy salt and pepper mills are a small touch that can make a big impression. Choosing an extra special brand not only improves the ergonomics of the mills, but they could double up as kitchen decor depending on the style you go for.
Obviously the go-to here is Le Creuset – their salt and pepper shakers are just gorgeous, no matter what colour you choose. If you aren’t sure on the theme your friend’s kitchen is, the Meringue or wooden colourway is your safest bet. Or, if you’re looking for something a little more unique, you could opt for hand painted salt and pepper mills from somewhere like Etsy.
5. Cookbooks That Celebrate Salt
For the food-lover who enjoys diving deep into flavour and technique, a cookbook dedicated to the art (and science!) of salt makes a thoughtful and unique gift. Whether they’re a home cook, a curious foodie, or someone who just really appreciates good seasoning, a book can be a great gift option for all skill levels.
Here are some of our top recommendations:
- Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat by Samin Nosrat – a staple in our house!
- Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky
- Salt and the Art of Seasoning by James Strawbridge
- The Sea Salt Cookbook by Gilli Davies
- From Salt to Jam by Katrina Meynink
6. Maldon Salt Tins
If you’re looking for a little ‘thinking of you’ gift, these adorable Maldon Pinch Tins are absolutely perfect! Ideal for taking in your handbag (which is ideal if your friend is always asking ‘wheres the salt’ when you go out to eat), the tins come in an adorable pack of 4, with 2 for standard flaked salt, and 2 for Maldon’s smoked salt.
Or, for something slightly bigger, Maldon also does a Sea Salt Gift Tin the size of their usual boxes of flakey salt. The tin is perfect for keeping in a cupboard, or even as a practical but pretty addition to a countertop. It fits 1 standard-size box of Maldon salt.
7. Sea-Salt-Scented Candle
If you’ve over-done it on the foodie presents, then homeware is the second best choice. But, you can still give a little nod to your gift recipient’s passions through the items you choose. Candles are always a safe (and much-loved) option, especially those that capture the fresh, clean essence of salt and sea air.
The Cornish Sea Salt Company has nailed it with their candle collection, with two gorgeous options; a Plain Sea Salt Candle with notes of oud, bergamot and fir needle, as well as a Smoked Sea Salt Candle with notes of cherry wood, green oak, and apple wood.
8. Flaked Seaweed & Seaweed Snacks
Seaweed might not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of foodie gifts – but for anyone who loves bold, salty flavours or enjoys experimenting in the kitchen, it’s a surprisingly brilliant choice. The Cornish Seaweed Company makes an incredible set of Flaked Seaweed, as well as a delicious Seaweed Salt, which works brilliantly on salads, noodles, in seafood dishes, or even sprinkled over popcorn!
9. JellyCat Salt & Pepper Mills
Okay, this one might be slightly niche, but if your gift recipient loves Jellycats, then I’m sure that they would love to receive the JellyCat Amuseables Rocksy Salt & Miller Pepper toys. For £30, you get a small soft salt shaker and pepper shaker. They look adorable sitting on a shelf, on the bed or even perched on a kitchen windowsill – bringing a bit of fun and personality to any space.
10. Sea Salt Subscription
Yep… they exist!! If you want a gift that keeps on giving, a salt subscription is a brilliant choice. Companies like the Halan Mon offer curated deliveries of their finest salts and blends, meaning your gift recipient will get to try something new every month.
From bold and smoky mixes to fresh, citrusy blends, this is the ideal gift for someone who loves experimenting in the kitchen – and it’ll keep your present top of mind all year round.
11. Salt-Infused Chocolates or Caramels
For the friend with a sweet tooth and a salt obsession, grab a box of gourmet salted caramels, sea salt dark chocolate, or even salted honey. If you have a slightly bigger budget, you could even pop together a sea-salt themed hamper with all of the treats mentioned above. Simply arrange them in a basket filled with tissue paper or shredded paper, decorate with a gift tag, ribbon, and handwritten note and you are good to go!
