Honey and mustard cocktail sausages are one of the most frequently made nibbles in our kitchen, and they also make for the perfect dinner party appetiser.

Not only do these deliciously sticky honey mustard sausages come together in half an hour, but they really only require three simple ingredients to make (two of which you’ll already have in your pantry!)

The sweetness of honey, the tanginess of wholegrain mustard, and the savory goodness of perfectly cooked sausages come together, creating a perfect bite that will leave everyone coming back for more.

Method

Follow these steps to make our Honey Mustard Cocktail Sausages

1. Cook Your Sausages

Start by preheating your oven to 200C/Fan 180C/Gas 6. Line your baking tray with parchment paper and spread out your cocktail sausages so that they aren’t all touching each other. Cook your sausages for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

2. Make Your Sticky Glaze

In the meantime, mix together your honey and mustard mixture. Once combined, season with salt and pepper to taste.

Top tip: if you like your sausages spicy, you can add a pinch of chilli flakes to the glaze before coating your sausages. Alternatively, try replacing half of the honey with sweet chilli sauce.

3. Coat Your Sausages

Once mostly cooked, remove your sausages from the oven and cover them with your honey-mustard mixture. Return your sausages to the oven for a further 5 minutes, or until the honey-mustard glaze has become sticky. If you like, stir the glazed sausages halfway through as this helps create a more even coating.

4. Serve & Enjoy!

Once glazed and sticky, pop your sausages into a serving bowl and stick in a few cocktail sticks for your guests to eat them with. Enjoy whilst still warm!

Top tip: These sausages are incredibly versatile. They can be served as a standalone appetiser, added to pasta dishes, or incorporated into wraps and sandwiches.

Related Questions

Can I Use a Different Type of Mustard in the Glaze?

Absolutely! While we recommend whole-grain mustard for a balanced flavour, feel free to experiment with your favourite mustard varieties to customise the taste. Dijon and classic American mustard work well.

How Else Can I Cook Honey and Mustard Cocktail Sausages?

These delicious honey and mustard cocktail sausages can also be made on the stovetop or in the airfryer:

  • Stovetop: In a frying pan, cook your sausages for 10 minutes, turning regularly until golden brown on all sides. Once browned, add your glaze and fry until sticky.
  • Airfryer: Cook your sausages for 12 minutes on high, before stirring in the glaze and cooking for a further 5 minutes. Use an air-fryer liner for easy cleanup (these silicone air fryer liners on Amazon are only £7.99 and have lasted in our kitchen forever!)

Can I Make the Honey Mustard Glaze Ahead of Time?

Yes, you can prepare the glaze in advance and store it in the refrigerator. Just make sure to bring it to room temperature or gently warm it before using it on the sausages.

What Can I Serve These Sausages With?

Honey mustard cocktail sausages make a fantastic standalone appetiser, but you can also serve them with toothpicks as party snacks. Consider pairing them with a side of mustard or a dipping sauce of your choice (we also love sweet chilli or BBQ). They can also be part of a charcuterie board or served with roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

Can I Use Pre-Cooked Sausages for This Recipe?

Yes, you can. If you’re using pre-cooked sausages (such as party cocktail sausages), you can skip the first baking step and proceed directly to coating them with the honey mustard glaze before cooking until sticky.

Are There Any Vegetarian Alternatives for This Recipe?

Yes, for vegetarian honey mustard sausages, you can use plant-based sausages and adjust the cooking time accordingly. Richmond Meat-Free Minis work just as well as the normal cocktail sausages! Ensure the sausages are cooked through as per the normal instructions, before cooking with the glaze until sticky.
