Blue cheese filled olives are a simple, but super impressive appetiser that is great to make in a pinch (i.e. when you don’t want to spend hours shopping for ingredients!). Plus, they are the perfect bite that won’t fill up your guests before a dinner party.

With just a little bit of blue cheese, cream cheese, and a dash of double cream, you can whip up a deliciously creamy filling in under 5 minutes. Paired with the briny green olives, they are perfect when paired with cheese and charcuterie, or as olives for a martini.

Serve them on their own, or on a skewer with a slice of fresh fig and a drizzle of honey for a bit of sweetness – read on for the full recipe!

Method

Follow these steps to make our Blue Cheese Stuffed Olives

1. Drain Your Olives

Start by simply draining your olives of choice (we used colossal olives), and patting them dry with a paper towel.

Top Tip: Save that brine! You can use it later to store any leftover olives or even add it to cocktails for a savoury, salty kick (trust me on this one—your martini will thank you).

2. Prepare Your Blue Cheese Filling

Start by crumbling your blue cheese of choice into a bowl, before adding the cream cheese and dash of double cream. Give this a good mix until everything is well combined. This may take a little longer if your blue cheese is on the crumblier side – you could use a blender instead if this is the case!

3. Stuff the Olives With Blue Cheese

Using a piping bag and a small piping tip, load up your blue cheese mixture. Twist the top tight, and pip a generous amount into each olive, until the mixture peeks out of both sides.

Top Tip: If you’re struggling to hold the olive and pipe the filling at the same time, use a little egg cup to hold the olive upright whilst you stuff them!

4. (Optional) Add Your Blue Cheese Olives To a Skewer

If you aren’t serving your blue cheese olives straight away, simply pop them back into the jar with the reserved brine from earlier. They’ll keep like this for up to three days – perfect for getting ahead with party prep!

Or, to help balance the salty-briny flavours from our blue cheese olives, we added them to a skewer with a slice of fig – enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Do Green Olives Last in the Fridge Once Open?

Green olives on their own can last two-three weeks in the fridge, especially when stored in their brine, in an airtight container.

However, blue cheese stuffed olives will only last a few days, due to the shorter shelf life of the cheese and cream. If you aren’t planning to serve your blue cheese olives straight after making them, pop them back into the brine in a jar to maintain freshness.

What Else Can You Stuff Olives With?

If you aren’t a fan of blue cheese, or want to offer a bit more variety in your appetisers, you can instead stuff your olives with:

  • Feta cheese
  • Whipped brie
  • Herby cream cheese
  • Garlic cloves
  • Jalapeños
  • Sun-dried tomatoes
  • Anchovies
  • Pimento peppers

Which Olives Are Best For Stuffing With Blue Cheese?

The best olives for stuffing with blue cheese are typically large, firm, and have a mild flavour to complement the robust taste of blue cheese. Colossal or queen-sized green olives are ideal, as their size allows for plenty of filling! Varieties such as Spanish Queen or Nocerella olives are also excellent choices for their delicious flavour.

Can I use Blue Cheese Olives in a Martini?

Absolutely! Blue cheese stuffed olives are a fantastic garnish for martinis, especially if you love a savoury twist. The creamy, salty flavour of the blue cheese pairs beautifully with the dry, botanical notes of gin or the smoothness of vodka in a classic martini. Simply pop one or two stuffed olives on a cocktail skewer, drop them into your drink, and enjoy!
