So… your girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband/situationship is obsessed with food, but the classic flowers and chocolates just won’t cut it this year? Don’ t stress – we’ve got you covered!
Whether they’re a budding chef, a sweet treat enthusiast, or someone who just loves to eat (ha, relatable), there’s a perfect food-inspired gift waiting to make their Valentine’s Day extra special. In this blog, we’ve rounded up the 9 best Valentine’s Day food gifts, with options to suit every taste and budget…
What Should You Gift a Foodie On Valentine’s Day?
If you’re a little stuck on what to get your loved one for Valentine’s Day, take a look at some of the ideas below:
1. A Multi-Course Home Cooked Meal
Spending Valentine’s Day indoors is actually far more romantic than going out for a cliche dinner in my opinion! Instead of struggling to get a reservation at the overpriced steak restaurant in your home town, why not treat your loved one to a three-course home cooked meal instead?
People love to be cooked for, even if it isn’t anything particularly complex. Go for something that is easy to make ahead of time, and is a dish you know the lucky recipient adores. You can even buy the dessert or starter to save time! Don’t forget to buy a bottle of bubbly, set the table, and turn on the romantic playlist before digging in.
2. Homemade Anything
If you don’t live with your loved one, or cooking a multi-course meal is far too much pressure (honestly, we get it!), then a simple homemade treat is a lovely alternative. A box of homemade cookies is the perfect small token of appreciation if you aren’t big on gifts. Or, if you’re a bit extra, like me, then you could craft a hamper full of homemade items. Here are a few of our favourite homemade food gift ideas:
- Salted caramels
- Chocolate truffles
- Jams & Chutneys (try our Peach & Rosemary Jam or Tomato & Nigella Chutney)
- White Chocolate & Pistachio Cookies
- Lemon or Elderflower Liqueur
- Vanilla Fudge
- Hot Honey
3. Grazing Gift Vouchers
If you’re a little last minute when it comes to Valentine’s Day gifting, a gift voucher is a great choice. But, to come across a little bit more thoughtful, choose a gift voucher from a small business, or for something specific, like a grazing box.
At Savery Grazing, we offer digital gift vouchers available in increments of £25, £50, £75, £100, £150, or £250. They can be redeemed against any of our platters or grazing tables – perfect for a future at-home date night!
4. Personalised Recipe Book
Papier does the most beautiful blank recipe books (I actually received one for Christmas!!), where the lucky recipient can pop in their go-to recipes for breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and sweet treats. Plus, each book comes with a handy measurements and cooking time conversions guide in the back. It will make the perfect family heirloom one day!
If your giftee isn’t a book person, you could instead gift blank recipe cards which can be stored in a drawer, or in a tin, which can easily be displayed on the kitchen counter.
5. Artisan Alcohol Gifts
If your partner enjoys a good drink, treat them to something unique like a bottle of craft gin, aged whiskey, or even a bottle of dessert wine. Want to make it more special? Create a cocktail-making kit with all the ingredients they’ll need to craft their favorite drinks at home. Don’t forget to include a handwritten recipe card, and maybe even some gorgeous glassware for a personal touch.
My personal favourite cocktail is an espresso martini. Here’s what I hope my lovely partner would put into a cocktail gift basket for me:
- Kahlua coffee liqueur
- Vodka
- Flavourings – vanilla, caramel, and cherry syrup
- A small jar of coffee beans, for garnish
6. Foodie Magazine Subscriptions
A subscription is truly the gift that keeps on giving. If your lucky recipient is someone who regularly tries new recipes, or someone who loves winding down with a good read, then a food-themed magazine subscription is the perfect way to go. Most are available on a 3, 6, and 12 month subscription, so you can choose a plan to suit your budget. Some of our favourite foodie magazines include:
7. Biscuiteers Biscuits
If you’re looking for a gift along the same vibe as chocolates, but elevated that little bit more, ordering a few biscuits from Biscuiteers is a fabulous option. Not only are they the most beautiful handmade biscuits, but you can also personalise them with your recipient’s name, or a heartfelt message.
Plus, they are available to order online, and offer worldwide delivery.
8. Anything With Truffle
I’m a bit obsessed with anything truffle-flavoured at the moment, and I think Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion to splash out on something extra fancy. Either pop together a truffle-themed hamper, or purchase one or two smaller items to complement your main gift. Here’s some of our favourite truffle-themed items for Valentine’s Day:
- Truffle pesto (M&S!)
- Truffle olive oil
- Truffle mayonnaise or ketchup
- Truffle salt
- Whole truffles & a truffle shaver, if budget allows
You can find most of these on The Truffle Hunter website, or at your local Waitrose.
9. Cooking Classes or Experiences
Sometimes, the best gifts are those that create memories. Surprise your foodie with a cooking class where you can learn to make pasta, sushi, or artisan bread together – or, whatever their fave cuisine might be. Not only is it a fun way to spend time with each other, but it also leaves you with a new skill you can replicate together at home!
If in-person classes aren’t feasible, opt for an online class. Companies like MasterClass and Sur La Table offer virtual sessions led by top chefs from around the world.
